Val d’Orcia, Tuscany Italy

Under the Tuscan Sunset ~ A Bridelan Editorial

August 2018

Nestled exquisitely in the South of Siena, Val D’Orcia is the jewel in Tuscany’s crown. It has a diverse and well-preserved landscape that is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The gently rolling hills and the unhurried pace of life makes this region a haven, a poster-perfect Italian village of our dreams. Against this picturesque backdrop, we placed a real-life couple: the British-born, Indian-origin Shivani Sharma and her Dutch partner Erim Serinoglu, to reimagine romance in the Italian countryside. There is meaning and purpose to Tuscany’s beauty. Heritage, timeless, preservationists, aesthete — this is the mood-board we went by.

On the styling front, we relied on the artistry of Indian bridal fashion’s rockstar. Sabyasachi custom designed looks for our editorial as homage to the trending idea of destination weddings in Italy. I’ve always borrowed heavily from Yash Chopra, the way he placed Indian fashion in European countryside like he did in Chandni and Kabhi Kabhie. Indian fashion is so unique and I believe that the only way to style and shoot them is by shooting them in a very romantic backdrop. Hope we’re making Yash Chopra proud?

“It’s uncanny how destiny plays a part. There is meaning and purpose to Tuscany’s natural beauty. Heritage, timeless, preservationists and aesthete. Can I humbly say that I dabble in these classics and find a striking resemblance of Tuscany’s beauty to our styling values?”

“I’ve always borrowed from Yash Chopra, the way he placed Indian fashion in European countryside like he did in Chandni and Kabhi Kabhie. Our indigenous fashion is so grand that you need a romantic backdrop to justify its beauty.”

“The time flies, and as we enter a landscape of gently rolling hills and vast fields, one thing becomes clear soon enough— this is that true slice of the Italian countryside, an embodiment, so to speak, of those sweetest of brioches, Pesche di Prato, for which they ought to have invented the phrase la dolce vita, the quintessentially Italian ‘sweet life”.

“When Nisha proposed the idea of an elopement in Tuscany, we could not resist. Who can say no to the romance of the rolling hills in the Italian countryside. We flew from London to Milan and drove from Milan to Florence to Siena to Pienza to be in the  middle of nature’s most blessed place on earth – Val d’Orcia.”
