Himani + Ajay

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

Maximum Mexico

December 2016

San Miguel de Allende is Mexico’s cultural heart. When you have to style an Indian sangeet in a city resplendent with Spanish baroque architecture and a year-round colonial hangover, it’s natural that the inspiration should stem from its thriving art and cultural air. Himani Amoli is a graphic and paper goods designer from the Silicon Valley in San Francisco. Her artistic eye informed the visual feast her wedding was going to look like. We shopped for Himani and Ajay in true Indian style. And allowed them to indulge in a colour usually forbidden at Hindu weddings – black. ‘We love it,” the couple gushed. “Black is a fashion colour.” While everything around them had a folksy and festival air, the bride and groom played up to their strengths of being different in deft outfits (Bandhini, mirror work and kashmiri embroidered) shopped from India. Someone had said, “People who wear black, live colourful lives.” Ditto for Himani and Ajay.
