The Home and the World ~ A Bridelan Editorial
When you have Bengali roots, they inevitably find a way back into your work, at times subtly and at others, strongly. My childhood memories of Calcutta include shopping for Banarasi saris on Park Street and New Market with mom, tea and dances at the English clubs and hunting for gold and jadau jewellery at every occasion. Soaking in the culture and poetry at Bengali weddings. Now my work involves styling Indian origin South Asian brides and they have been a major inspiration. To marry the east and west while respecting traditions. American weddings are as beautiful as the Hindu ones and have left deep impressions on me. Here’s a brief and poetic manifestation of all those visual cues that make my life as a stylist so culturally alive.

“We went on a Calcutta trail, to rediscover my own roots and Nisha’s too and partly to bring the Calcutta of our collective consciousness to the contemporary lens. I trained as an architect, so I wanted to marry architecture with fine arts. The narrative is titled Amar Bari, which is Bengali for ‘My Home.”
